Exterior Wall, Masonry and Specialist Coatings

Breathability is what separates a quality exterior masonry paint from one that creates problems further down the line. A coating that traps moisture rather than managing it can accelerate damp issues in brick and render, particularly on older properties. Weatherflex is formulated to do both jobs: block rain and harsh weather from getting in, while letting water vapour out.

Masonry Paints and Coatings

Weatherflex is Kingfisher's premium exterior masonry paint, available in smooth and textured finishes across a wide range of colours. It's a highly breathable waterproof coating, meaning it blocks moisture ingress from rain and harsh weather conditions while still allowing water vapour to pass through the wall. That balance matters on most exterior walls, particularly older properties where trapping moisture causes more problems than the damp itself.

Applied correctly to a clean, prepared surface, Weatherflex accommodates seasonal temperature changes without cracking or splitting, and has demonstrated durability in excess of 15 years under normal exposure conditions.  Suitable for brick, stone, render, and concrete.

Roof Paints

Our roof paints collection cover different roof problems. Kolourseal Flexible Roof Coating is a breathable acrylic coating for roof tiles, designed to restore colour and provide up to 10 years of weather protection. It uses UV-stable pigments to maintain colour under prolonged UV exposure, and can be applied by brush or spray. Fibreseal is a liquid roof repair compound for flat roofs, felt, and asphalt, brushed on to seal leaks, cracks, and splits. Both products address different stages of roof maintenance, from cosmetic restoration to waterproofing repairs.

Epoxy Paints and Coatings

Industrial-strength floor and surface coatings for concrete and high-traffic areas. The range includes Epoxy Floor Paint for garages, workshops, and commercial floors where chemical resistance and a durable finish are needed, Clear Epoxy Primer & Coating for sealing concrete surfaces while maintaining a natural appearance, and Epoxy Pond Paint for water features and tanks. All epoxy products create a moisture-resistant barrier, making them a practical choice for basements and damp-prone concrete floors before applying a decorative finish.

Anti-Mould Paints

Our anti-mould paints cover the full treatment system: Mould Cure black mould remover to neutralise existing fungal growth and spores before any paint goes on, Thermapaint Anti-Mould Paint which combines fungicidal protection with thermal properties to reduce condensation on cold surfaces, and Anti-Mould Paint Additive for mixing into any emulsion where a specific colour is needed with anti-mould performance. All three are also available together as the Anti-Mould Kit. The additive approach is particularly useful for larger rooms or where matching existing décor matters.

Damp Proof Paints

Damp Guard is a quick-drying damp proof paint that forms a liquid membrane on concrete, brick, and render. It's designed to reduce water ingress through walls and floors, and can be applied as part of a wider moisture management system before decorative finishes go on top. Available in white, black, magnolia, grey and blue.

Brushes and Accessories

Professional brushes, rollers, and application accessories compatible with the masonry, anti-mould, and epoxy products in this range. Using the right applicator with the right coating gives a more consistent film build and a cleaner finish, particularly on textured masonry paint where coverage can vary with the wrong roller nap.

Getting the Surface Right Before You Paint

  1. Most exterior masonry paint failures come down to preparation. Clear loose material, treat algae, fill fine cracks, and remove peeling paint before anything goes on.

  2. Surfaces must be clean, dry, and structurally sound. Applying paint to brickwork, render, or concrete stone that hasn't been properly prepared undermines long lasting protection before the first coat is even dry.

  3. On soft or friable surfaces, apply a stabilising solution first. It hardens the substrate, improves adhesion, and supports long lasting colour by giving the paint a solid base to bond to. In our range, we also keep Weatherflex Stabilising Solution for friable or soft surfaces before painting, and Bio-Wash Moss Remover for algae and moss on exterior surfaces before any exterior project begins.

  4. A second coat is standard. One coat rarely achieves full weather resistant coverage or a uniform finish on exterior walls.

  5. Allow the first coat to become touch dry before the second goes on. Check the product data sheet for recoat intervals, particularly in cooler or damp conditions.

  6. For surfaces with active mould, treat with Mould Cure first. Painting over active growth is the most common reason mould returns quickly, regardless of how dirt resistant or water repellent the topcoat is.

Not Sure Which Product You Need?

Choosing between an exterior masonry paint, an anti-mould system, a damp proof coating, or an epoxy product isn't always straightforward, and picking the wrong one for the surface or the problem can mean redoing the job sooner than you should. Kingfisher's technical team can point you in the right direction before you order. Contact us if you're unsure which product suits your surface type, or if you're dealing with an existing damp or mould problem and aren't certain where to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between masonry paint and standard exterior paint?

Masonry paint is specifically formulated for porous mineral surfaces like brick, stone, render, and concrete. It provides better weather resistance, flexibility to accommodate natural building movement, and breathability compared to general exterior paints. Standard exterior paint is not designed for the same demands and typically won't perform as well on masonry over time.

How long does exterior masonry paint last?

Weatherflex has demonstrated durability in excess of 15 years when applied to a correctly prepared surface under normal exposure conditions. Longevity varies with surface type, exposure level, and whether prep was done properly before application.

Can masonry paint help with damp?

A breathable waterproof coating like Weatherflex reduces rain penetration into exterior walls, which helps manage moisture ingress over time. It is not a fix for structural damp problems, but it forms a useful part of an overall moisture management approach for exterior walls. Read our blogs on Damp-Proof Paint and How to Fix Damp Walls for more information.

Do I need a stabilising solution before painting?

On surfaces that have gone soft through weathering, after re-rendering, or on friable mortar, a stabilising solution should be applied first. It hardens the surface, improves adhesion, and allows paint to be applied immediately after. Skipping this step on an unstable surface leads to poor adhesion and premature failure.

Can I add anti-mould protection to any paint colour?

Yes. The Anti-Mould Paint Additive mixes into any emulsion paint. One 120g bottle treats up to 10 litres. This is a practical option for projects where a specific colour is needed and switching to a pre-formulated anti-mould paint isn't straightforward.
