Damp Proofing
Your one-stop-shop for damp solutions
Damp walls are more than just a nuisance that spoils paintwork and décor. Left unchecked, rising damp and penetrating damp can lead to more serious structural problems and even health issues for occupants, so early remedial damp treatment is essential. At Kingfisher we have been developing and manufacturing damp proofing products for over thirty years and crucially we have worked closely with specialist contractors, to ensure that all our systems and products work in the real world. Additionally, this practical perspective gives us an edge in helping customers to correctly diagnose and then resolve, rising damp and lateral penetrating damp problems.
Diagnosing damp
As with most journeys, it really helps to know your starting point and this is where Kingfisher can help. A damp solution for every eventuality….
Having diagnosed your damp problem, you now need all the kit and guidance to sort it out. Whether it is a water repellent to stop rain penetrating your lime mortar or an injected damp course for a brick wall, Kingfisher has the proven products to solve even the most complex structural water proofing challenges. Our Technical Data Sheets offer detailed guidance on using our products but in an easy-to-follow and jargon-free format. They are pdf format and can be found underneath the product description / photograph.
Rising damp – injection treatment
Restore a degraded damp proof course or install in older walls which never had one to begin with.
Our popular range of cream based Damp Proof Injection Kits allow small projects to be tackled quickly, effectively and inexpensively, ideal for small contractors and more experienced DIY-ers. For specialist DPC contractors we offer pressure Injection Fluid systems for those larger scale projects and thicker walls, along with the specialist plasters and admixtures needed to effectively manage the “drying out” phase..
Damp floor repair
We are commonly asked how to seal a damp floor, usually in older properties and our epoxy products are the default choice for solving this problem. Epoxy resin is tremendously versatile on damp floors, whilst being easy to use and saves the soul destroying and expensive work of breaking out old but otherwise serviceable concrete floors.
Sealing walls against rain penetration
Lateral penetrating damp is undoubtedly the most common source of dampness in U.K buildings and often the one which causes the most confusion. This is simply because rain can travel some distance through a wall before finding an exit point inside the building. Consequently the offending damp patch on the interior wall might be several feet from the weak point on the external face of the building. The good news is that in most cases this form of damp is easy to treat and relatively inexpensive. Our range of water repellents includes products which can be applied in challenging weather conditions Stormseal and our high performance Extreme Climate which combats storm driven moisture in exposed locations.
Energy efficiency & damp walls
A wet wall is a cold wall. If we get soaked to the skin in a winter shower, we feel cold much faster than if we were dry under a waterproof jacket. Why? Water absorbs latent heat and draws that heat away from our body as it evaporates and the same happens with buildings, only the moisture can be absorbed more deeply into porous building materials like brick and mortar, sometimes accumulating for months in the dark days of winter. Efficient damp protection can improve a building’s thermal performance by many percentage points, depending on the particular construction.
