Over time the elements and other environmental factors take their toll on your roof. This issue is amplified by the fact that from the 1950s onwards, use of traditional slate roofing tiles declined in favour of cheaper pre-cast concrete tiles. Often available in vibrant colours, architects favoured these roof tiles as they complemented their bright and modern designs. Unfortunately pigment and pre-cast technology was not as advanced as it is today and the roof tiles' original vibrant colours faded to the now familiar dull grey. In addition, quality varied and some tiles have proven to have a design life of only 25 years. Today in extreme cases the tile surface can actually break down and become porous, resulting in moisture retention and encouraging the growth of unsightly moss, green mould and lichens. The retained moisture also increases load on the roof trusses and ultimately leaks to the inside walls, showing up as damp patches. In most cases a roof renovation, including careful repair of structural defects followed by application of "Kolourseal", will restore the roof tiles' vibrant colours that originally made them so appealing, and re-seal them against future damage from the elements.

Using Kingfisher Kolourseal it is easy to have a fully restored roof in next to no time; simply follow these nine steps:
Kolourseal is a range of advanced polymer roof coatings developed specifically for use on porous roof tiles. Formulated using premium grade UV light-fast dyes. Kolourseal roof coatings re-seal porous surfaces and add spectacular depth of colour to concrete or clay roof tiles, and even metal and asbestos roofs. Developed at our Lakeland factory for the worst of the British climate, Kolourseal Roof Coatings also set new standards in severe weather protection.
Kolourseal Roof Coatings come in 20 Kg packs (smaller, 75ml tester pots are also available) and should be applied in two coats by brush or spray, working first coat thoroughly into joints, tile ends and substrate.
Coverage depends on the porosity of the roof tiles but is typically around 3 to 5 square metres per litre for the first coating and 5 to 6 square metres per litre for the second coating.
Allow 4 to 6 hours between coats depending on weather / temperature.
Do not apply at temperatures below 6 deg C or if roof surface temperature exceeds 32 deg C.
Do not apply in wet weather or if rain is expected within 6 hours of final coat.
Having thoroughly cleaned the roof surface of all moss, lichens and environmental contaminants, apply Bio-Wash Patio and Roof Cleaner as a deep-kill sanitising solution. This will effectively eradicate all remnants of moss roots, spores and green mould, leaving a perfectly clean surface which will promote maximum adhesion of Kolourseal Roof Coatings.
Typical coverage is 3 to 5 square metres per litre. Biocidal wash comes in a 5 litre bottle which can be diluted to make 25 litres and should be applied using a spray.
Note: If roof is contaminated with moss it may be necessary to "spot" treat certain heavily soiled areas after wash down.
