PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Mould Cure (Black Mould Remover)
Uses:
• Treats mould on cold external walls, especially behind furniture
• Treats mould on bedroom walls & ceilings, especially those adjacent to chimneys
• In kitchens Mould Cure tackles black mould infestations resulting from high levels of moisture from cooking and washing up
• For wiping down mould from hard finish furniture, especially melamine
• Removes mould from bathroom paint finishes, tiles and grout
• Around windows including the glass and window frames affected by black mould growth
• Removes black mould from utility rooms, laundry areas where high levels of humidity are often present
This is an essential component in treating and re-decorating plasterwork or timber affected by black spot mould. Walls and ceilings infected with black mould should always be pre-treated with Mould Cure prior to re-decoration with Kingfisher Anti-Mould Paint or Thermapaint Anti-Mould.
Mould Cure black mould remover is a concentrate which treats up to 5 times the area of spray applied products.
Good ventilation is essential to maintaining a healthy atmosphere indoors. Fungal infestations of all varieties thrive in warm, moist conditions with poor airflow. All remedial mould treatments should be carried out in conjunction with measures to improve ventilation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What causes black mould in homes?
Black mould develops in homes due to excess moisture and poor ventilation. Common causes include condensation on cold surfaces, water leaks, high humidity levels, and inadequate airflow. Areas with recurring dampness, like bathrooms, kitchens, window frames, and poorly insulated external walls, are particularly vulnerable. Combining organic material (like drywall or wood) and moisture creates ideal conditions for mould growth.
Is black mould dangerous to health?
Black mould can cause health problems, particularly for people with allergies, asthma, or compromised immune systems. Exposure may trigger respiratory symptoms, including coughing, sneezing, eye irritation, and in some cases, more severe reactions. While not all black mould produces mycotoxins, prolonged exposure should be avoided, especially in vulnerable individuals, children, and the elderly.
How effective are mould removers compared to bleach?
Professional mould removers are significantly more effective than bleach for treating black mould. While bleach can remove surface staining, it doesn\'t penetrate porous materials to kill mould roots and spores. Specialised mould removers contain fungicidal agents that eliminate the entire mould structure, including hidden spores. Additionally, most professional products provide longer lasting protection against regrowth as a complete treatment system.
How can I prevent mould from coming back after treatment?
Preventing mould recurrence requires addressing the underlying moisture problem. Key prevention steps include: improving ventilation through extractor fans or opening windows; reducing condensation with proper insulation; promptly repairing any water leaks; maintaining consistent indoor humidity levels (30 to 50%); using dehumidifiers in problem areas; and applying anti-mould paint after treatment. Regular cleaning and monitoring of previously affected areas is also recommended.
Can I remove black mould myself, or should I hire a professional?
Small areas of black mould can typically be treated by homeowners using appropriate protective equipment (gloves, mask, eye protection) and a quality mould remover. However, extensive infestations, mould in HVAC systems, mould caused by sewage contamination, or cases where individuals have respiratory issues may require professional remediation. If mould returns repeatedly despite treatment, a professional assessment of underlying moisture problems is recommended.

Our bathroom gets very damp which is a breeding ground for mould even with a fan going I have used all the mould remover sprays and yes they do cure the problem but three to four weeks later I start to see it returning I used the mould cure and I can honestly say in my opinion that it is one of the best products I have tried it’s 4 weeks since I applied it and there is no sign of it returning so far

Bought this product as I'm fed up with buying other supposed anti mould treatments, wasn't too impressive at 1st as there appears to be no chemical smell, but 2 days later the affected area was significantly mould reduced, a week later gone.

Description
Kingfisher Mould Cure is a broad-spectrum liquid fungicidal cleaner and surface sanitising treatment developed for mould removal on internal painted finishes and other hard surfaces.
It is formulated to kill common black mould, including strains such as Stachybotrys chartarum, frequently found in damp environments where mould problems develop due to excess moisture and poor ventilation.
Mould Cure is typically specified as a pre-treatment prior to applying mould-resistant coatings within the Kingfisher range, including:
- Kingfisher Anti-Mould Paint
- Kingfisher Anti-Mould Additive (mixed into any emulsion paint of your own colour choice)
- Kingfisher Thermapaint Anti Mould (combined condensation and mould control)
By cleansing active fungus and spore concentrations, the product helps address contamination at surface and microscopic levels. However, long-term success depends on resolving the underlying moisture problem. Without addressing excess humidity, condensation or water ingress, mould may return.
Understanding Black Mould Growth
Black mould commonly develops in damp conditions created by:
- Poor ventilation
- Cold surfaces
- Condensation build-up
- Persistent moisture from leaks or penetrating damp
Bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, rental properties and poorly ventilated rooms are typical high-risk areas.
Mould spores can contribute to health issues, particularly for individuals with asthma, allergies or weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include breathing problems, eye irritation and skin irritation. Effective treatment requires both cleaning and moisture control.
Preparation & Application
Black mould growth is both unsightly and potentially harmful. Mould spores can trigger health problems, particularly for people with allergies, asthma, weakened immune systems, or existing respiratory issues. Exposure may lead to breathing problems, eye irritation, skin irritation, and other health issues if left untreated.
Black mould typically forms in damp conditions caused by poor ventilation, excess moisture, and cold surfaces. Bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, rental properties, and homes with limited airflow are common examples. Many homeowners attempt repeated cleaning with white vinegar or regular paint, but without tackling the root cause, mould growth often returns.
1. Identify Moisture Source (the underlying problem)
In approximately 70% of cases, condensation is the primary cause. Everyday activities such as cooking, showering and drying clothes increase airborne moisture, which condenses on cold walls, windows and porous surfaces.
Improving ventilation is essential. This may include:
- Opening windows regularly
- Using extractor fans
- Clearing blocked air bricks
- Improving overall airflow
If moisture is linked to water leaks or structural defects, professional advice may be required.
Treating mould without resolving the moisture source will rarely provide long-term success.
2. Neutralise Mould with Kingfisher Mould Cure
Safety precautions: Wear protective equipment, including rubber gloves, FFP3 mask and eye protection. Avoid inhaling spray mist.
a) Using the built-in measuring cap, dilute 100ml of Mould Cure with 400ml of warm (not hot) water. Apply using a sponge, or absorbent cloth working from the outer edge of the contamination inwards (to avoid inadvertently spreading the spores) and regularly rinse cloth/sponge in the bucket. Agitate heavily soiled or mouldy areas and allow the solution to work for 3 to 4 hours, or overnight, for best results.
b) Re-wipe the area with the same solution using a damp cloth, extending at least one metre beyond the visible mould to remove invisible mould spores. Wipe the area completely, then allow it to dry naturally.
This cleaning process ensures mould is removed from both visible and microscopic levels, helping to prevent future growth.
3. Re-decorate with Mould Inhibiting Coating.
Allow the surface to dry fully (approximately one hour). For best results, apply a mould-resistant or anti-mould paint (Kingfisher Thermapaint) within 7 to 10 days. On porous surfaces such as plaster or wood, sealing the area is critical to prevent mould developing on the surface again.
Please note: long-standing mould problems may permanently stain paint, plaster, or timber. In these cases, repainting is recommended for both decorative and preventative reasons.
