If you’ve discovered mould growing in your wardrobe, don’t despair. While it’s an invasive and destructive problem, there are practical steps you can take to eliminate it and prevent it from returning.
Good ventilation is the enemy of black mould. Start by clearing out your wardrobe to allow better airflow around your garments. Ensure clothes aren’t packed tightly together, giving them room to breathe. If possible, avoid letting clothes make direct contact with the cold wall surface at the back of the wardrobe. Additionally, leave wardrobe doors slightly ajar to improve air circulation.
Wardrobe mould often stems from poor room ventilation. Ensure any brick vents in the room aren’t obstructed by furniture or belongings. If you have double-glazed windows, open the trickle vents. In rooms where air quality is particularly poor, consider leaving the windows open slightly – even during winter – to allow fresh air to circulate and reduce humidity levels.
If mould has already taken hold, you’ll need to take immediate action to prevent it from spreading further. Start by removing all items from the wardrobe. Launder or dry clean any affected garments to ensure they’re free from mould spores. Then, thoroughly clean the interior of the wardrobe, as active mould growth left unchecked will continue to spread.
We recommend using Kingfisher Mould Cure, a highly effective treatment designed to eradicate black mould spores. Apply it generously to the affected areas, following the product’s instructions for best results.
After successfully killing the mould, it’s wise to take additional steps to prevent it from returning. Repaint the interior of your wardrobe using Kingfisher’s Thermapaint, a unique double-action formula that’s both anti-condensation and anti-mould. This innovative paint functions like regular emulsion but includes heat-reflecting properties and mould-inhibiting elements to keep your wardrobe free from black mould in the future.
