Damp proof your property in 2025

As we face another year of unpredictable weather in the UK, taking steps to make sure your home stays warm and dry has never been higher on the priorities list. Damp can creep into properties unnoticed, causing ill health, structural damage, and rising energy bills. Whether it’s penetrating damp from rain-soaked walls or condensation from cold, damp interiors, tackling the problem head-on (rather than putting it off until another day) is always the best way to damp proof your property in 2025. Here’s your no-nonsense guide to keeping your home cosy, warm, dry and protected.

Recognise the enemy: penetrating damp

It’s easy to blame “rising damp” for moisture issues, but the reality is that penetrating damp is often the main culprit. Particularly in the UK’s damp climate. Shaded north-facing walls can stay wet for weeks, leading to damage on the inside and out. This is where we come in! We've spent a lot of time designing the perfect products to solve damp problems in homes and businesses across the UK...

Step 1: Protect exterior masonry

One of the best ways to damp proof your property in 2025 is by sealing exterior walls against rain getting in. Our Stormseal Masonry Water Seal is perfect for the job. Unlike most water sealants, it actually works brilliantly on damp surfaces. You don’t need to wait for the rare dry spell - which we all know can feel like you're waiting forever. Apply Stormseal directly to those cold, damp walls, and it will create a long-lasting barrier that keeps water out.

For properties in harsher environments, like coastal areas or exposed sites, we recommend turning to another of our amazing weapons against damp: Extreme Climate Masonry Water Seal. It’s designed for the toughest conditions, protecting masonry from freeze-thaw damage and preventing white salt staining. It has an invisible, breathable finish and a massive 10-year lifespan. It really is a reliable way to protect walls in all weathers.

Step 2: Deal with interior damp

Once the exterior is sorted, get yourself a cuppa to celebrate... but don’t forget the inside. If damp has already compromised internal walls, our Terrain Mesh Membrane is an excellent solution. It's a high-performance waterproof membrane that creates a dry, habitable space, even in areas that have previously suffered from persistent damp. It’s durable, easy to install, and compatible with plaster or boards for a super neat finish.

Step 3: Prevention is better than cure

Damp-proofing isn’t just about fixing problems. It’s also about staying one step (or more!) ahead of them. Take the time to regularly inspect your property for early signs of damp. This can be things like peeling paint or musty smells. And when you spot them, act quickly to prevent long-term damage.

Why it matters

One customer recently told us how they'd used Stormseal to transform their chilly, damp Victorian terrace. It's now a much warmer and drier home after years of battling moisture on north-facing walls. They noticed the difference in just weeks too. There were hardly any damp patches and better still, their energy bills actually dropped.

By taking the right steps now, you can damp proof your property in 2025 and enjoy a more cosy, healthier home all year round. Whether you’re protecting against penetrating damp or restoring a damp-prone interior, the right products make all the difference.
