Quikpoint highlights - to maintain the integrity and weatherproofing of a structure, it is important that mortar joints are of sufficient depth, have no hidden voids and are adequately compressed and sealed. The Quikpoint Mortar Pointing Gun is a convenient and effective joint filling system, used by Masonry and Pointing Contractors yet suitable for less skilled operatives and competent DIYers. The Quikpoint Pointing Gun is consistently faster than trowel filling and more likely to achieve full joint penetration. It is physically less demanding than hand-held  pointing guns (also known as caulking or mastic guns) which rely on hand-generated pressure and hence are prone to causing Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI).

Mortar Mixes

Whilst the nature and quality of sand can vary considerably, the Quikpoint is generally effective across a wide range of cement and lime mortars. If someone is struggling to process a mix, once we have established the tool is correctly assembled, we will check how the mortar is being mixed and the type of sand being used. Using a ‘tumble’ or ‘gravity’ mixer will always produce a more consistent, better combined mortar than any effort with a drill and mixer paddle. ‘Sharp’ sand is usually spec’d with a maximum grain/grit size of 2 mm – Quikpoint will comfortably handle mortars with sharp sand and will tolerate similar grit sizes in lime mortar mixes. It MAY even handle a small percentage of slightly larger grains in the mix, but that will require thorough mixing. The requirement for a plasticiser is not universal and may be dictated by the type of sand delivered – the Gibco MRF Admixture recommended by Quikpoint has proven to be a very effective addition to some coarse mortars – click here for further details.
