Brick Driveway Sealant

The ultimate trade trusted SATIN finish block sealer, K-Seal Block & Paving Sealer protects, enhances colour and inhibits organic growth. Suitable for:

  • Paver Blocks
  • Black Limestone
  • Sandstone Paving
  • Concrete Paving
  • York stone

K-Seal Block & Paving Sealer is easy to apply by roller, brush or solvent resistant sprayer. It is the first choice of professional applicators. This is because unlike cheaper water-based alternatives, our brick driveway sealant provides genuine long-term protection. It can last for up to four years and really brings out the colour in weathered paving, especially black limestone.

Block paving driveways and patios are increasingly more popular but can often be exposed to the elements. This means that over time, signs of wear, tear and degradation can damage the appearance of your block paving. Luckily, Kingfisher have you covered with a brick driveway sealant that will enhance appearance and resistance.

Block Paving Sealer

Recently installed a new driveway or you just want to restore your existing patio? If so, this block paving sealer is second to none. It is outstanding for resisting all types of dirt to stop surface staining and weather damage. The durable finish that this brick driveway sealant provides will help prevent signs of wear and tear for years to come.

Our sealant for block paving is formulated using only premium grade acrylic resins. K-Seal Block & Paving Sealer repels both oil stains from vehicles and fatty stains from barbecue spills. This block paving sealer also penetrates deep into the surface. Helping protect against water and frost damage and inhibits the growth of algae, weeds and moss. K-Seal Block & Paving Sealer is easy to maintain in subsequent years as required, with no risk of yellowing or cracking.

So, preserve the life of your paving today with our high-quality block paving sealer. Please contact us for more information and advice regarding the K-Seal Block & Paving Sealer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does block paving sealer last?

When correctly applied to a well-prepared surface, professional-grade block paving sealers like K-Seal typically protect for 3-4 years before a maintenance coat is required. This is significantly longer than water-based alternatives, which often need yearly reapplication. Factors affecting longevity include surface preparation, application technique, weather exposure, and traffic intensity. For driveways with heavy vehicle use, you may need to apply a maintenance coat to high-traffic areas more frequently.

Will sealing block paving prevent weeds?

Yes, one of the primary benefits of a quality block paving sealer is that it penetrates and solidifies the jointing sand between paving blocks, which helps prevent weed seeds from germinating and taking root. The sealer creates a barrier that makes it difficult for weeds to establish themselves in the joints. For maximum weed prevention, ensure that joints are adequately filled with kiln-dried sand before application and that the sealer thoroughly penetrates these joints during application.

When is the best time to seal block paving?

The ideal conditions for applying block paving sealer are dry, mild days with temperatures between 10-25°C, with no rain forecast for at least 24 hours. Spring and early autumn are typically the best seasons in the UK, as summer can sometimes be too hot (causing the sealer to dry too quickly) and winter too cold or damp. Never apply sealer to damp surfaces or when dew, rain, or cold temperatures are expected, as this can affect adhesion and curing.

Can I seal newly laid block paving?

We recommend waiting at least 6-8 weeks before sealing for new block paving to allow for initial settlement and for any efflorescence (white salt deposits) to appear and be treated. This waiting period stabilises the paving and allows any manufacturing salts to be naturally washed away. For new concrete paving, wait at least 30 days for the concrete to fully cure before applying sealer. Sealing too early can trap moisture and salts, leading to a cloudy appearance or poor adhesion.

How does solvent-based sealer compare to water-based alternatives?

Our solvent-based acrylic formula provides several advantages over water-based sealers: Superior penetration – penetrates deeper into porous surfaces for better protection Longer-lasting protection – typically lasts 3-4 years compared to 1-2 years for water-based sealers Better colour enhancement – provides richer colour enhancement, especially for dark materials like black limestone Excellent oil resistance – creates a barrier that resists vehicle oil spills and BBQ grease All-weather durability – withstands freeze-thaw cycles and UV exposure better than water-based options Water-based sealers are easier to apply and have lower odour, but simply don\'t offer the same level of protection or longevity.

How much sealer do I need for my driveway or patio?

Coverage rates depend on the porosity and type of surface being sealed. As a general guide: Block paving: 4-5 m² per litre per coat Natural stone: 3-4 m² per litre per coat Concrete: 5-6 m² per litre per coat We always recommend applying two coats for optimal protection, so calculate your total area, divide by the appropriate coverage rate, and multiply by two. For example, a 50m² block-paved driveway would require approximately 20-25 litres of sealer for two coats (50 ÷ 4.5 = 11.1 litres per coat × 2 coats = 22.2 litres). It\'s always wise to purchase slightly more than your calculation to ensure you don\'t run short during application.

Do I need to remove the old sealer before applying a new coat?

If the existing sealer is still in reasonable condition with no peeling, flaking, or discolouration, you typically don\'t need to remove it before applying a maintenance coat of K-Seal. Clean the surface thoroughly and apply a fresh coat once dry. However, if the old sealer is failing, showing signs of delamination, or is a different type of sealer (e.g., water-based), it\'s best to remove it thoroughly using a suitable stripper before applying K-Seal. You can always test a small area first to check compatibility if you\'re unsure.

Will sealing make my block paving slippery when wet?

When applied correctly, K-Seal Block & Paving Sealer creates a satin finish that maintains good slip resistance even when wet. However, over-application or applying in very thick layers can create a surface film that might become slippery in wet conditions. To ensure optimal safety, always apply thin, even coats and avoid pooling or puddling of the sealer. Consider adding an anti-slip additive to the final coat for additional traction for areas with steep slopes or steps.

How do I maintain my sealed block paving?

Maintaining sealed block paving is simple: Regularly sweep or blow away leaves, dirt, and debris Clean spills promptly to prevent staining Periodically wash the surface with a mild detergent solution Apply a maintenance coat every 3-4 years or when water no longer beads on the surface Treat any moss or algae growth with a fungicidal wash as soon as it appears Top up any disturbed jointing sand and seal it to maintain joint integrity Avoid using pressure washers on maximum settings, as this can damage the sealer and joints With proper maintenance, your sealed block paving can maintain its appearance and protection for many years.

Will block paving sealer change the appearance of my paving?

K-Seal Block & Paving Sealer enhances the natural colours of your paving with a subtle satin finish. The effect is similar to how paving looks when wet – bringing out the depth of colour without appearing glossy or artificial. The enhancement will be more noticeable on porous materials like standard block paving than on dense materials like granite. For a more dramatic "wet look" finish, multiple coats can be applied, or you might consider our Block Star Colour Changing Sealer, which is specifically designed to maximise colour enhancement.
