Basement Tanking & Cellar Renovation

A typical renovation of a damp basement should contain several key components as laid out in the diagram below. Kingfisher provide a variety of products suitable for each stage of the renovation process.

demo 1: Wall Preperation
1. Walls prepared by scabbling back to substrate, removing old paint and plaster. This created a good "key" surface.
demo 2: anti-sulphate treatment2. Kingfisher "Anti-sulphate" was applied to inhibit the passage of ground water salts. demo 3: Barrier Mortor
3. "Barrier Mortar" was applied to the wall to floor joint to achieve a water tight seal.
demo 4: Render Coat
4. Render coat applied. Mixed 4:1 sharp sand & cement incorporating 3:1 clean water & Kingfisher "K-X11". Important: Do not leave more than 48 hrs before proceeding step 5.
Demo 5: Aquatech Basement Tanking Membrane
5. Kingfisher "Aquatech" tanking membrane applied, having allowed render to cure overnight. "Aquatech" was mixed with 5:1 water and "K-X11" using a powered paddle. Two coats required.
demo 6: Dry wall renovating plaster
6. Kingfisher "Dry wall" renovating plaster was applied to finish. Note: Only cement and lime based renovating plasters can be used onto the Tanking system.
